Что обычно значит Claude Code credits
Фраза credits звучит одинаково, но за ней стоят разные механизмы. Plan usage является частью Free, Pro или Max. Usage credits являются paid overflow для платных пользователей. API credits являются предоплаченным балансом в Anthropic Console. Qualified program credits доступны только в узких программах. Provider credits принадлежат сторонней платформе или облаку.

Если у вас есть Pro, это не означает, что у вас есть API credits. Если у вас есть cloud credits, это не означает, что у вас появились credits Anthropic. Если Claude Code запускается через совместимый endpoint, клиент может выглядеть знакомо, но billing owner and support owner уже другие.
Usage credits: платное продолжение, а не подарок
Usage credits полезны, когда работа важнее ожидания reset. Но включать их нужно как покупку продолжения. Пользователь выбирает feature, пополняет баланс, задает spending preferences and may enable auto-reload. Поэтому вопрос не «где бесплатный лимит», а «готов ли я перевести следующую сессию в paid consumption».

Если цель нулевой дополнительный расход, сначала уменьшите context, начните новую session, используйте /clear, примените /compact, разделите задачу или подождите reset. Paid overflow не должен включаться автоматически только потому, что интерфейс предлагает продолжить.
API credits находятся в Console
Claude API and Workbench credits оплачиваются через Console. Ordinary API use is prepaid: you fund a balance before use, successful requests and completed tasks draw it down, and purchased credits expire under the published terms. This is why API credit questions should start in Console Billing, not in the Pro plan page.
The clean route is: identify the organization, identify the payer, confirm balance and expiry, confirm whether auto-reload exists, then confirm whether Claude Code is actually configured to use this API key. If a provider, router or cloud layer appears in the middle, the owner has changed and the claim should be treated as provider credit until proven otherwise.
The External Researcher Access Program is the strongest official free API-credit lane, but it is not a public coupon. It is an application-gated program for AI safety and alignment researchers. It gives API credits for an approved use case; it does not turn every student project, hobby project or coding agent test into free Claude Code.
Gifts, guest passes and invite claims
Gift subscription is official when it is purchased and redeemed through the official Claude gift flow. It still has a buyer, plan, duration, expiry and redemption terms. For the recipient it may feel free, but the route is a paid gift, not a public guest pass.
Guest pass language needs stronger proof. A screenshot, a shared URL or a community comment is not enough. The terms should appear in your own official Claude or Anthropic account surface: domain, plan, duration, card requirement, renewal behavior, eligibility and support owner.

Когда free Claude Code означает другой backend
Some instructions keep the Claude Code client and replace the backend with Gemini, OpenRouter, a cloud route, local model or another compatible endpoint. This can be a legitimate experiment, but it changes the contract. Model quality, logging, privacy, support, rate limits and billing are no longer the same as official Claude Code usage.

For toy projects, that route may be fine. For customer code, secrets, proprietary repositories or regulated data, read the backend terms before sending context. A compatible backend can be useful, but it should not be called official free Claude credits.
Practical decisions
If you need the official Claude Code experience and can pay, use Pro or Max and monitor /status plus Settings > Usage. Choose Max for a larger paid allocation, not for unlimited use.
If you already have Pro or Max and hit a limit, decide between waiting for reset and enabling usage credits. Enabling usage credits means spend cap, balance and auto-reload checks first.

If you only need a zero-cost agentic coding experiment, a non-Claude backend or another free coding tool can be reasonable. Keep the label honest: it is a different backend route.

Are Claude Code credits free?

Does Pro include API credits?
No. Pro is a consumer subscription. API credits belong to Console billing. When Claude Code uses API credits, it uses a different meter.
What are usage credits?
They are paid overflow for eligible paid-plan users who want to continue after included usage runs low. They require billing setup and should not be read as free credits.
Are guest passes real?
Treat every pass as account-specific until your own official Claude or Anthropic surface shows terms. A paid gift subscription is official but not the same as a universal guest pass.
Can provider credits pay for Claude Code?
They can pay for a provider-owned route or compatible backend if that provider supports it. They are not Anthropic-issued credits unless the official owner says so.
How do I avoid accidental charges?
